Fabulous Falmouth

We left Poole at 10 am Wednesday 23rd May. The weather was good, and the forecast looked favourable for a couple of days.

We slipped our lines and waved goodbye, out of Poole Harbour, and due to the wind headed South, with all cloth flying we sped along. However, realising we weren’t going to France we headed West or as best we could until the wind moved around and came from the North. The we could finally point in the direction of our destination.

Having watched a beautiful sunset we were fortunate enough to have a clear sky, see shooting stars and watch the phosphorescence (bioluminescent plankton) light up as we cut through the water.

The wind gradually dropped off during the night and by morning we were motoring with only a couple of knots of wind. So we enjoyed a day of sunshine and flat calm seas, while we slept and sunbathed.

At around 5pm we made our approach into Falmouth Harbour. We had booked a space at the Falmouth Marina a little further up inside http://www.premiermarinas.com/pages/falmouth_marina

After refuelling and putting Dreamcatcher to bed we went for a stroll into town to find a pub and a well deserved pint

The Chain Locker Falmouth

In uniform of course

Tomorrow is now tomorrow…..

So pretty much everything has been done and bought, stored and stowed ready to go.

Only a few last finishing touches to be made and some farewells to be had. There maybe a few tears as we sail away, but the day has come to leave Poole and set off for adventures and hopefully a better climate although today was pretty nice.

Next stop Falmouth

Getting ready to go

So after the crew arrived on Thursday 17th May joined for the day by Mike and Kerry, and we went through the usual pleasantries of drinking a lot of booze, catching up and reminiscing, as we hadn’t seen each other in 2 weeks the first thing we did is watch movies and recover from our hangovers……

Then it was down to business, getting the supplies and stowing them on Dreamcatcher, working out where everything was going to live for the bulk of the journey.

Testing the rigging with the newly acquired storm sails from Jeckells Sail maker, we noticed a snag on the spinnaker halyard which meant it was time to go up the mast.

With 4 of us crew and only 3 degrees we finally managed to inflate our Seylor Kayak

Now as we are only a day away from leaving we are making the last few touches to make sure we have everything. Weather looks good = happy sailors

The First Post

So I guess everything has to start somewhere.

Basically today I have been cooking lots of meals ready to go in the freezer to take on our journey across the Bay of Biscay and down to Sant Carles Marina in Spain. Obviously i would need an awful lot of food and space to feed me and 3 others all the way there.

So instead I have enough to cover us going across the Bay of Biscay which will undoubtedly be the hardest part of the journey.

That is of course if the weather ever breaks enough for us to set sail.

Here is hoping that we get some sunshine, it is May after all
